About

Why "Ariel Mapping"?

The name Ariel Mapping is inspired by Archangel Ariel, traditionally seen as the protector of nature, the Earth, and the elements. In many spiritual traditions, Ariel represents a guiding force for environmental stewardship, a guardian watching over the natural world. That spirit of protection and care is at the heart of everything we do.

Our work involves remote sensing and drone imagery, essentially, "eyes in the sky", offering a unique, elevated perspective much like an angelic presence. We use this technology to support projects that aim to better understand, protect, and restore the environment.

And yes, it's a bit of a play on words. It might look like we misspelled aerial, but Ariel is no typo. It's a deliberate choice that reflects both our mission and our values: combining modern tools with a deeper purpose of environmental care and awareness.

About Me

Olivier - Founder of Ariel Mapping

Hi, my name is Olivier, founder of Ariel Mapping, a geospatial services business I started to help environmental consultancies streamline their workflows and make mapping and analysis more efficient.

I'm a GIS specialist and environmental scientist with a background in ecology and marine biology. My passion for GIS stems from its power to convey complex information into visual stories, turning data into something intuitive and meaningful. During my Master of Marine Biology at James Cook University, I pivoted strongly toward geospatial analysis, writing my thesis on pairing drone imagery with GIS to make environmental surveys more accurate and efficient. This research was later published in a peer-reviewed journal.

Today, through Ariel Mapping, I combine technical expertise with an ecological perspective to help clients turn aerial imagery and spatial data into clear, actionable insights. I'm deeply passionate about the environment, and I see GIS as a way to connect technology and conservation, bringing data to life in service of better environmental decisions.
